SolLocka time lock for your own SOL

Terms of use

Draft for legal review. This text is not final and does not apply yet. Parts in [brackets] are still to be filled in.

1. Who we are

SolLock (sollock.io) is run by [trade name], a sole trader in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number [KvK number], VAT number [VAT number]. You can reach us at [email address].

2. What SolLock does

SolLock is software that runs in your browser. It builds a Solana transaction that creates a stake account with a lockup: an account holding your SOL that the Solana network will not let anyone withdraw from before the date you choose. You check that transaction and sign it in your own wallet. The Solana network then keeps the lock. The lock's custodian is an address that nobody has a key for, so nobody, including you and us, can lift the lock early.

We never hold, receive or control your crypto or your keys, and we never sign anything for you. We keep no accounts and store no data about you or your locks.

3. What SolLock does not do

  • We do not look after your crypto. We are not a bank, an exchange or a custodian.
  • We give no financial, investment, legal or tax advice, and we never predict prices.
  • A lock pays no interest or other return.
  • We cannot unlock a lock early, for any reason, and we cannot recover a lost wallet or recovery phrase.

4. Fee

For each lock we charge 0.25% of the amount you lock, at least 0.01 SOL and at most 0.25 SOL, including VAT. The fee is paid in SOL, in the same transaction that creates the lock, and the preview shows it before you sign. Test locks of exactly 0.01 SOL that open within about a day are free. The Solana network fee and the rent deposit are not ours: the network fee goes to Solana, and the rent deposit stays in your lock and comes back when you withdraw.

5. Right of withdrawal

As a consumer in the EU you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a contract made online. Our service is performed in full the moment your lock is created, and a lock cannot be undone. Before you sign, you ask us to perform the service straight away and confirm that you lose your right of withdrawal once the lock is created. [Lawyer: check wording against Article 6:230p BW and Directive 2011/83/EU, Article 16(m) for digital services.]

6. Your part

  • Keep your wallet's recovery phrase safe and offline. Never share it. We will never ask for it.
  • Check the transaction in your wallet before you sign. Only sign what you understand.
  • For a gift, use the address of a self-custody wallet the recipient controls, never an exchange deposit address.
  • Do not use SolLock for anything illegal, such as hiding money from creditors, money laundering or avoiding sanctions.

7. Risks

  • If you, or the recipient of a gift, lose the wallet's recovery phrase, the SOL in the lock is lost for good.
  • The price of SOL can fall while it is locked, and you cannot sell it until the date.
  • Solana is run by others. Its software can change or have faults, and it can be slow or unavailable at times.
  • Wallet apps change over the years. You may need different software to withdraw on the date.
  • The network's clock can run a little behind real time, so a lock may open slightly after the moment you picked.

8. Liability

We build SolLock with care and test it thoroughly, but we cannot promise it is free of faults. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for losses that come from the risks in section 7, from the Solana network, from your wallet software, or from you signing a transaction. Our liability for any lock is limited to the fee you paid us for it. This does not limit our liability for intent or gross negligence, or any right you have under mandatory consumer law. [Lawyer: check against Article 6:237 BW.]

9. If SolLock stops

The website may change or go away. Your locks do not depend on it: they are ordinary Solana stake accounts, and after the date you can withdraw with any tool that supports stake accounts. The recovery note explains how.

10. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. The version on this page when you create a lock applies to that lock. [Date of this version.]

11. Law and complaints

Dutch law applies. If you live in another EU country, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of that country. Disputes go to the competent court in Rotterdam, unless the law gives you the right to go to the court where you live. If you have a complaint, write to [email address] and we will answer within 14 days.
